Gett'en out that " nasty old" smell
#52
I just brought totes from storage and the material smelled- I had blocks from swaps and a few unfinished items I had bought these fabric sheets that are strong they are arm and hammer essentials I got mountain rain- threw a few sheets in each and they seem to do the trick when I finish the items then I will wash them. afraid if I do just the blocks they might come undone .

Come to think of it, put the plastic bag full of smelly, outdoors in freezing weather.
Then put them in the .dryer, so the air can get through the fibers, and flush out the smelly debris.

Like you, I've tried seemingly everything to rid my FW case's funky smell..
I will definitely try this!

I just saw an article about used dryer sheets (could probably use new sheets also). Put the dryer sheet in a plastic tote, (or drawer, or something) put the blocks in and leave it for a day or two. The sheet (s) should take away the musty odor. Hope it works for you.......

I would not wash them before they are assembled, you could end up with a knotted mess. Put either a baking soda "refrigerator box" , a few pieces of charcoal wrapped in newspaper, or a handful of silica packs (those little packs that come in a box of new shoes) in the bin and close it back up for a couple of days. This will remove the odor and not harm the fabric or blocks. I'd love to see pictures of these treasures.
