Getting discouraged

I'm a beginner and I get frustrated easily when things don't go smoothly. I am finding that if I walk away and not let it get the better of me, and come back to it later, or the next day, often my enthusiasm is restored and so is my patience. Don't give up, you can improve - take in all of the advice here and find what works for you. <Smile>...you can do it!

Karen,
I've been quilting for about, ummm, 17 years now.
I own at least 3 rippers, all very well used!
Just relax, take your time, take a rotary cutting class if there is one in your area.
But, most of all, have FUN! You'll do JUST fine!! Honest.

Hey, Karen, I have been quilting for 6 years (still a newbie by most standards) and STILL rip out. Just the other day I was so proud that I had finished the 20th square, and realized that the center triangles were sewn with the wrong side facing me! No matter what happens, keep on stitching!

Never give up. I have always joked that I have made every quilt i've made twice. I sew, I rip, I sew, I rip etc but for some reason its ok. I just keep plugging along and when done I am so proud of my work. It doesnt have to be perfect-it has to be made with love.

I sometimes think that we are our own worst enemies in that we're too hard on ourselves. Probably someone else wouldn't notice what you see as glaring mistakes. Let someone else look at them or post some pics here and get some positive reinforcement. No one here is over critical and would only give constructive advice.

dont give up..we all have bad days. i find that i need peace and quiet with no interruptions when cutting otherwise I make stupid mistakes. i take my time when measuring and only cut as i sew so if I have made a mistake i will pick it up before cutting lots of material. I also bought a 1/4 in foot as i have trouble eyeballing a 1/4 in seam and that helped heaps. Keep at it and you will soon be quilting up a storm. :D
