Gift for kindergarten teacher
#1
I'm planning to make a wall hanging in primary colors (red, blue green and yellow) for my niece's kindergarten classroom as a gift. Have any of you seen any neat wall hangings for teachers? If you've made any other teacher gifts for which you'd like to share photos, I'd be grateful for any ideas like that also.

Unfortunately, I dont have pics. But I went to one grandson's class to be a special reader. I chose two books...one I could use props and interact with and the other one was "How I learned geography". I made a panel quilt of the United states into a wall hanging and left it with the first grade class.
Last week I went to a presentation of the solar system by my fourth grade grandson. I made a panel quilt of the Solar system into a wall hanging for their class. Both seemed to be greatly appreciated. I am making the same to panels for the boys to have at home....I will post when I get them done.

You might consider some of the neat fabrics that are on the market right now that use children's books. Two that come to mind are Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See? and The Very Hungrey Caterpillar. They would be neat wall hangings if the teacher wanted to hand them in her classroom.
p.s.---that is sooooo thoughtful of you. Having taught Sp. Ed. PreK for years (and currently volunteerinng in a Kindergarten), no one realizes just how hard these teachers work.....

My sister has taught kindergarten for many years. Every couple of years I sew new sitting mats for her students. They meet on the carpeted floor for whole group activities, but she uses the mats both for comfort and spacing the students. Some times they are color-coded for grouping, other times they match her theme for the year. She sews, but doesn't have a serger, which makes them go much faster.
If you make a wallhanging, it might be fun to make it interactive. Kindergarten teachers usually fill their wall space with teaching materials (and are evaluated on providing a good learning environment). Purely decorative items might not be practical.

This might be too advanced, but my granddaughter is 3 and knows all her states. I found a panel at Joann Fabrics of the united states. I mounted it on that stuff that you use to send quilted post cards. Can't remember the name, any how it has adhesive on one side, ironed it to a sheet of that, cut out each state, I know I'm crazy. used a blanket stitch on the edges, you can do that sitting in front of the TV. Got a thick piece of muslin and traced out the states, put velcro on the back, giant puzzle. She loves it. You could even make it a wall hanging.
