    Default Glue Baste Question

I have made my son a T-Shirt quilt and will back it with a tye-dye fleece. Will Elmers school glue work to baste the fleece to the-shirt? I didn't use any stabilizer nor will I use any batting.

Maybe you could try it on a few scraps? A fellow member reminded us that glue
    basting isn't really like spray
basting but more like pin basting in that you don't have to cover the entire surface of the batting with the glue. Just drizzle on in a sort of grid. That is the way I do it and it seems to work great for me. Let us know how it turns out.

I would imagine that the glue will stick to the fleece and probably to the t-shirt material. My concern would be without a stabilizer you will get some stretching. Glue basting as others have said is not an all over sticking down but rather a sticking down in places. Those places are generally close together but if you have a stretchy fabric with nothing holding it you will run the risk of it stretching as you quilt it.

I agree. Without any stabilizer on the back of the stretch t-shirts, you might have problems with the t-shirts stretching while quilting. Have you thought of using adhesive spray??

I'm making a t-shirt quilt right now, and I didn't back my shirts, instead I heavy starched them (stiff as a board). They dont' seem to be stretcing as I sew with them. My friend wanted a fluffy quilt, so I choose not to add the extra bulk. If you have time, could you heavy starch the shirts and then baste with the glue?

just a thought... without the stabilizer, not only am i concerned about the stretch while sewing, but the stretch afterwards. if it stretches while in use, will it snap the threads?

Misty Fuse is great for backing stretchy blocks. It doesn't add any bulk at all. I've seen a tshirt quilt that wasn't stabilized and not quilted much at all, not that great looking after a few washing. Just be sure it is quilted very closely.

Thank you all for your help. I am just going to stitch in the ditch and maybe and echo around the figures in each block to hold the sandwich together. I will look into Misty Fuse.
