I know this might not be understood in some circles, but I am at one of those points all of us find ourselves in from time to time with our partners. I have wanted goats for sometime now and was convinced this would be the year. After developing duck and chicken flocks and finding the breeds I want to raise, I am currently now investigating goat breeds.

Why would I put this in a quilt forum when I am sure the OFF-SUBJECT FAIRY will zap me a good one then?

I have figured out that in order to get my goats I will have to give another big wish up this year. Thus, my first treadle machine will have to wait. I have found patience makes the man happier but there comes a time where we just simply want both!

Therefore I shall let the treadle machine go by the wayside and succumb to the fact (and make my voice heard by the man) that I understand the need to wait on that. With that being said... the goats will come along and do most of my pruning for me on the property and the treadle will find me in time.

Is anyone or has anyone else been presented with this type of sacrifice when it came to sewing/quilting wants/needs for big ticket items.
    Do share!

Most treadles go for $50. around here. Maybe, if you keep looking, a way will show itself. Know what I mean? LOL

WHO could resist baby goats? Some of the cutest things on earth. If you have a way to sew now, I'd stall the treadle if I had to, to get the goats. I wish I had room for a few goats, but I don't think my suburban neighbors would like it very much! All in good time...

Yes, I am fortunate enough to have 3 machines already none of which are treadles. It seems a good fairy is trying to obtain one free for me. I will let it ride. I would love to have one now but I agree... all in good time.

I have a couple of feral hogs I'd be glad to give you!
Just come and trap them for me!
    Who needs goats!

I do understand. I waited for four years to get my dream machine and didn't think it would ever happen. But as much as I love sewing, anything alive takes precedence with me so in your circumstance, I would take the goats first too!

Hope you get some really sweet kids!

I imagine that most of us have had to learn patience and waited on some very wanted quilting tool. I had to wait for my children to grow up to afford a studio. Then, of course, once I had the space for a LA, I had to wait till we were able to pool the money together. My poor husband has waited for a new tractor for at least 10 years (but he does have two old ones). Is it just human nature to always want something more?

Anyway, hope you somehow manage to get the goats and the treadle. And here's hoping that the kids are as sweet as they always look?

....the goats will eat everything down to the dirt!!! But, they're good eating themselves so worth raising.

The exercise you miss in pruning can be spent on the treadle - making it a need!

Until the last 5-6 years, I waited on everything extra or fun until my kids were well on their way to grad schools and my hubby retired from the Marine Corps and we knew our finances were pretty good. I scrimped and saved, made do with what I had, penney pinched and all. It's been well worth the wait. And all the sudden several huge windfalls have come my way and I have more than my lifetime worth of crafts, fabric and good things :) Who could have seen that happen???

I would like a treadle, but the need of a new washer is first, & it will have to wait another year ( it's been 4 yrs now ) if it holds out that long.
I like goats, the are so comical at times.
