How about maybe a StartRight frame (is that the name?) that holds your current sewing machine? I think one for Queen Size is only about $600. I don't have one but I'm thinking seriously about it...

I think so, but you can also buy just a frame and put your own sewing machine in it. You will be rolling the quilt more often, because the throat of a regular machine is shorter. Still, $1500 is not a bad investment...

I looked and it says it only works for certain sewing machines.

That sticker shock of a long arm quilting machine will get them every time. My son once told me he'd like to buy me one, then I told him the price - maybe later.
