gonna be grandma

Congrats...being a "Nana" has changed my life! My grand daughter's first quilt was an elephant and I did matching curtains, dust ruffle, bureau scarf and basket covers for the changing table. At first I didn't think the fabric her Mom picked out looked too much like "baby" fabric, but when finished I really liked it. Then as she got older I made a larger one and a pillow case with the same fabrics, but with big flowers on it . And of course, a small one for her baby doll. It has been so much fun.

Oh I am jealous. My grandaughter is almost 15. Being a GM is the best job in the world. The baby will love whatever you make. I like little rag quilts in pastels and baby prints. But I usually check with the mother.....to see is she has a specific theme. Oh what a year 2011 will be for you.

congrats. if you are going to find out boy or girl before the birth, you might want to wait and do something that will go with the nursery decor and sex of the baby.
for my oldest grandson i took all the squares i cut out of the corners when making his crib sheets and did a simple patchwork. however, gave it a solid backing and handquilted waves, puffy fish, little slender schools of fish, sea turtles, sea grasses, air bubbles. he is 3 and wants it with him anytime he is going to sleep.
for his baby brother i did large squares with appliqued sail boats, then hand quilted waves.
just let your inspiration hit you, you've got time to enjoy thinking up what you want to do while you are waiting for the little one.

Congrats!!Hope you are as excited as I was when we found out our youngest son was going to be a daddy. We use skype every week and can see the family in Wisconsin. Our son is so good with Alex that im glad they waited to have a child.I think he has matured enough to really enjoy his son,and the responsibility that goes with children.
