For white fabric I always go to Joannes with a coupon and buy the whole bolt of white, cream or whatever of Kona Cotton. The price is affordable and it is good quality.
Thousands of Bolts is great, also dutchlandquilts and Connecting Threads for all other fabrics.

I like the Legacy muslin at Joann's for $9.99 and with a 50% coupon that is valid this week it will make it less than $5.00 a yard and it is so crispy white and so soft for the backing. It is 108 wide also, so you don't have to piece it.

another place that is really good is Marshalls Dry Goods - they are inexpensive, are a wholesaler (sell to quilt shops) have good service etc. http://www.marshalldrygoods.com/

you can find some great deals online i buy online almost or more than i buy local as we only have 1 fabric shop and wal-mart to choose from although our fabric shop has stepped it up alot lately she cant carry everything. and i like to check out online sales alot as my budget is limited alot of the time.
