Fabric locations differ-----------one store has it on shelves on the outside wall. One store has a bin in the back near the sheets and stuff. One store puts their fabric on the top shelf above some clothes racks. Just walk in and ask. One time we found what looked to be factory ends on heavy tubes standing in the corner by the books.

I got a great quilting pattern the last time I was in there. I was so excited!

our goodwill always has a different department at 50% off every day. Some days if real lucky its mens cotton shirts. So 50% off and then 25% off total purchase for senior discount every other tuesday, and you can get a lot of fabric for very little money. I just have to watch how many shirts or dresses i pick up on each visit. I think my last visit i ended up with approx. 14 yards of fabric for $5.

It is always a treat to find fabric at bargain prices in thrift stores. Unfortunately, I never find it often enough to suit me.

I browse the Goodwill and Salvation Army all the time. When I made lap quilts for the nursing home, I bought old bed spreads and used them for the lining. Or blankets. I have also bought quilts for the dogs at the Humain Society. I cut them into large squares, hem and launder them. They are used in the kennels. Also bought towels for the HS.

Oh one other thing I've learned as a Goodwill (I call it GW Inc) shopper. If I'm not going to wash the fabrics I buy, I put them in the dryer on the hottest cycle to be sure there are no little critters hanging out in them (bed bugs, UGH!!). I read that someplace and since I LOVE GW Inc shopping, I don't take a chance.

My Hospice is good for fabric too. But there are an awful lot of home sewers here and you've gotta get up early to beat them to it. When I do get some it's usually pretty good stuff. I find quilting books and patterns sometimes, too. I have a friend who volunteers at the Humane Society thrift store and she calls me when they get quilty stuff in. It's nice to have that kind of friend. 8-)

I wonder why they don't accept sewing machines anymore?
Did you ask them? Mine still has them. I find old clunkers there all the time, but no gems.

Unfortunately though - they are asking $40 for those clunkers - brands I have never heard of.

Our Rescue City has the sewing machine in the cainets for like $25 now but i don't think people here like old machine but that is where i found my 66 model and that sucker is HEAVY, I swear my arms are 1 inch longer now from toting the darn thing in to the house, but it sews great! Yesterday i found some fabric there for 2.00 for about 6 yards total. :roll:
