gail-r,
just plug it to an extension cord, those heavy duty that have a white rounded cord, a switch and a light. I use one of those and works great. It is on the floor so I just turn it on and off with me feet.

I have a plain old (20yrs. at least) and love it but...there is sometimes a but...the steam holes catch on the edge of my pieces. There are little dents around the edge and then I have to work them out. So, I am looking for a dry iron without steam holes.
Does anyone have suggestions, please?

The Vermont Country Store carries the 'dry iron'. It is the one that is used by Carol Doak in her paper piecing dvd's.
Just checked on line---it is in the "Laundry' section under Household & Cleaning. Think it is about item #36--(you have to click 'next' at the bottom of the page to get to the page it is on)

Me, too! Needed a new iron, bought expensive Rowenta on-line, it was so heavy, thought I'd get carpel tunnel using it...sent it back to Amazon. Now, with B&D, stainless steel bottom, lightweight, shuts self off but I can't turn it off, so unplug when I leave the house due two dogs left at home. Afraid to leave it plugged when gone.
