from Don-isewman--I my self would hand quilt it. I had a lady friend give me A GFGarden. The rough size is 65" x 88". I took it to my sewing group in Moline, Ill. And we(my group), roughly counted any where from 3,000-3,500 hex's. The hexs are, lets say. The size of a quarter adding a 1/4" in size in circu. I marked each hex a 1/4" and hand quilted each 1. It took me 9 monthes to hand quilt it. I again say HAND QUILT IT.

Your quilt is gorgeous!!! I'd hand quilt this one if it were mine. I just think there are certain quilts that deserve the hand quilting. I have the same problem after I finish piecing one and that's how to quilt it. I go to Google and look at pictures of the finished quilts and get ideas from that. I'm sure it will be beautiful however you decide to finish it.

If you have spent over a year making it are you sure you want to machine quilt? I have spent over 8 years creating my hexagon quilt by hand and can't imagine using a machine to quilt it. (That said I did seam the backing by machine!)

My daughter just sent me a link to a grandmother's flower garden quilt today. It might give you some ideas.
This one is doll sized with the blocks being less than one inch each.
