    Default Grandmothers flower garden help

I have started a Grandmothers flower garden and am making little 1" hexies everywhere I go
I am reading tons of stuff on the internet about how to sew them together. Right side together and whip stitch - lay them flat and whip stitch - lay them flat and ladder stitch
Can you guy's give me some suggestions on what works best to keep your stitches from showing on the front.

Silk needle and thread if you have it. If not try to just catch the fold as you sew them together with matching colour of thread.

I do right sides together, whip stitch, catching just a few threads on each hexie. Have not had a problem with the stitchs showing. Just keep them small. Many people use the ladder stitch, which is nearly invisable, but I have a bit of a problem with that, altho I do use it for applique. Try the different methods and see what works best for you. I have been using quilting thread for piecing. Strong, and dosen't fray.

Beware, GFG can become addictive! I'm on #3.

you should have seen some I got from a European quilter. the stitches were so tiny I needed a magnifying glass to see them. so well done. doing a whip stitch allows the hex's to lay flat after you put them together. try to find some online tutorials on this process. keep going. i'm sure you will do fine.

I haven't worked with hexies that small, but when I hand piece GFG I just do the usual running stitch. I tried whip stitching and it was very slow for me (and showed a lot -- apparently I do not have the skill level of the European sewist!). Jinny Beyer does all hand piecing, and she's the one who won that big contest years ago with a hexagon quilt. I borrowed a video from the library that had her showing her hand piecing techniques, and it helped me a lot. I believe it's on DVD now. Maybe not worth the purchase price, but check your library.

I don't think this will work for your because you already started making the hexes. But I am doing one with Brandy's method. It is working out well.
