Lovely quilt!

I just went to Paperpiece.com (or whatever it was called!)

There is someone in the word making a king size quilt out of 1/4 inch - yes - 1/4 inch hexagons!!!

I cant seem to load the picture of how she is doing so far!!! (slow internet up here in the Irish hills!)

I'm a big fan of the company Paper Pieces and buy my hexagons from them.

I have been working with the 1/4" hexagons and they are tiny pieces but love them. I have always loved the Grandmother's Flower garden pattern. If you go to the Paper Pieces web site be sure to look around at their free patterns.

Ok - this thread inspired me to take a pic of my work in progress!

So here you go - The cat is Mollie - she got up to come and discuss disturbances on the bed during the day!!!

I have 46 rossettes made up and I think I need 6 more for the design I want to do (thanks to this board - I now have it drawn out on hexagon graph paper I printed!!)

I am putting a bright blue floral print in for the 'paths' - this will be a king size!

Love the grandmother flower garden quilt and have just started one. I am using the 30's fabric. I am also a scrapbooker. I have a hexogan punch that I use to punch out the paper pieces so they are perfect every time, using a light weight cardstock. I really like the idea of using the cards out of a magazine. I'm going to try that. I am new to quilting so hoping this works well. Have only made 5 hex's and they seem to be going ok. Good luck.

I am currently hand piecing one also! I can't remember where I got my pattern but it is really a large flower! Each petal is 3 inches! I have about 20 completed flowers made. I cut a template out of a cereal box and traced around the edges onto the back of the fabric and cut it out. They all lined up perfectly so I don't understand the fuss. My dilemma is how do I want to piece them into a quilt? Do I want to applique them to a 13 inch block or do I want to piece the background hexagons on the sides of the flowers? Don't know at this time but somehow and someway I'll figure it all out! LOL!

Gorgeous! Did you applique those flowers on the background fabric?

As was mentioned, there will probably be many different answers. It is "what works best for you." In answer to your question about applique or putting together with other hexagons--do you enjoy doing applique? That would probably be the deciding factor. I am doing mine with the hexagons. Then, I will use "half flowers" to make the sides, top and bottom come out. One will still have to applique the hexagons to the border. As I mentioned in a previous post, I will try to post a sample of a border. It will take work but it is gorgeous.

I am not sure that my "applique" skills are up to par! I like it but I think I need more practice!
