Way cute idea!!! I think I would also either glue earth magnets under the edge of the plate or saucer for needles or use two different colors of material on the top and use one color for pins and the other for needles.

I have a tablespoon I use as a pin cushion. Feels like really stuffed batting covered with material that is glued to the spoon bowl. The back of the spoon is covered with a little crocheted doily that extends beyond the bowl to make a little lacy-looking trim. It is embellished with pearls and ribbon. I keep it on my LA for my needles I use to bury my knots. It's at home in WA right now, otherwise I'd post a picture!

Actually I did not glue the cushion part into the bottom. I used poly stuffing for the inside of the cushion, covered with the fabric and formed into a tight ball, and pushed it into the gravy boat. The cushion stayed put because it expanded a bit into the boat cavity and the gravy boat had a small lip inside of it.

I am going to make another one and will try different filling materials to see how they work. I did not know that poly stuffing dulls the pin points until I read it here on the Quilt Board.

Very pretty. I also would like to know where you got those darling pins? Thanks for sharing. Love it. Darn it. I just noticed I lost my "regular" status. That's a bummer.

I am in the process of making pin cushions in cute cups and saucers(glued to cup). Also a very small teapot, Aladdin style, the lid will be discarded. I also made one for myself in a little crystal round dish with feet. The gravy dish is beautiful.

Fantastic project. I love old dishes - this is something I am going to have to do for Christmas. Thank you for sharing your idea.
