Guild Challenge
My guild is having a brown bag challenge. You place 5 FQs in a bag with your name and hand it in. In return you get someone else's brown bag of FQs. You can add one fabric, if you choose. My question is: any suggestions on what I can make with five FQs? I'd like to join this challenge but I am at a loss as to what do make. Thanks, Barb

By adding the one fabric and having six fat quarters you can make this: http://www.shopmartingale.com/images...uarter-bag.pdf
It is a fantastic bag and is big enough for a king size quilt.

A table runner or topper, a wickedly easy quilt block baby quilt (don't know how much a lap quilt takes but that might work too) a hanging, a purse or bag, a set of nesting fabric boxes. This sounds like a fun challenge.

With 5 FQs you are not going to make a big quilt. Does your challenge rules say you can add one FQ or add one fabric? That makes a difference. You can add a background fabric and make whatever the other fabrics bring to mind. I don't think you should go into this challenge with an idea of what you plan to make.

Many of Evelyn Sloppys' Big Block patterns would be great. Check out Martingales' site:

you can make a baby size Yellow Brick Road if you can add a border fabric.
or if you have the twister template you could make a wall hanging or a baby size quilt
another QB member had this sand challenge in 2012! http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...e-t204951.html

Barb, my guild did this challenge and we had a list of things that people could do. Table runners, place mats, candle mats, purses, scarves, aprons, wall hangings, fat qtr. bags, pin cushions, microwave heating bags & bowl holders, cassarole carriers, pincushion & scrap catchers, tree skirts (if you get christmas fabric), shoe bags, jewelry holders (made with circles of fabric), ruler carriers, just a few ideas that might help.

Go for it and allow yourself to have fun with the challenge.
I am sure there are others in the Guild that will help you figure it out, if you are stumped.
I'd wait to see the fabrics ..... they might "tell" you what would be the ideal thing!
