I was taught in Home Ec (1000 years ago) to always unplug an iron and a toaster. (I don't think toaster ovens had been invented yet) I still do.

When the Fire Dept. came and put out the smoldering fire, they told me never, never to leave an iron plugged in. Luckily I had gone down in the basement to the utility room to get something and found smoke starting to come out of the wall. If I hadn't, the fire would have really taken hold before anyone would have noticed it.
Yep! That's what happened. Except it was up the wall before I found it.

I am so glad you caught it this time and that you are safe!! I also unplug my iron every time I am done with it because of what you went thru. It seems that you touched many of us with your story last year and maybe even save a few of us from the same fate and I thank you for that. I am glad you are back and sewing :-) Might switch patterns if I were you and iron brands. I would like to know what kind of new puppy you got with pictures pretty please :-)

    Hugs

That is awful! So glad you were right there to take care of it. I'm usually pretty good about unplugging things but not always. I would tell myself I was being paranoid, it wasn't necessary. But now I'll be even better about it. I had heard that appliances like coffee makers could catch fire. That's why I started doing; your story reinforces it! Thanks for posting.
