Right handed, use right foot, but will try the left just to see how it goes. I have wondered why they didn't offer mirror image sewing machines for lefties, but it's possible my left hand is as busy as the right while sewing. I got a taste of the lefty's world one time when I bought a pair of scissors at a garage sale and didn't realize they were for left-handed until I tried to use them.

To me it's like driving the car - use your right foot. I also find that my speed is directly related to my skill - kind of like driving a car too.

Funny, I was just wondering this same thing the other day! I am left handed (although I play golf right handed; no idea why) and I am definitely left footed!

CJMomma, I like that analogy. I'm the same as you on the use of hand/foot.
quote=cjomomma]I am left handed but use my right foot. it's like driving a car for me, the left foot stays out of the way unless there is a clutch for shifting. :-)[/quote]

I am right handed but use my left foot on the pedal of the sewing machine as I use the right leg for the knee lift. I also handquilt with both hands. I guess playing the piano early in life and touch typing helped train my hands to work together. I also drove a stick shift car for at least 20 years which also helps train both feet. I don't use my left hand for any kind of cutting or hand sewing other than quilting.

I am right handed, and use my right foot, but also use the start/stop button on my Janome for back issue relief from time to time on long seams like borders.

I use my left foot on the pedal because I use my right knee for the take-up lever.

I have my overlocker set up next to my sewing machine and I swivel the chair so that I use the right foot for my overlocker and the left foot for my machine and it really feels OK to do it this way. Lots of people have commented that they think I am ambidextrous in many ways, so perhaps that is the reason why. I don't notice until it is commented on.

When I started quilting, I used my right knee (I'm right-handed). Then I bought a bigger sewing machine which had a presser foot attachment you move with your knee. Well, you know what I did- couldn't get coordinated and did a lot of "oopsies" when I pressed the foot control instead of the presser foot release. The gal at the quilt store said simple, just learn to sew with your left foot. It didn't take long and now I love it!
