Does anyone prefer hand piecing over machine piecing? I've made several attempts at machine piecing and find the final result inaccurate. The time I waste ripping out machine piecing seems greater than time spent with needle in hand!

I love piecing by hand...not necessarily over piecing by machine, but it does have advantages! I can sit and watch a movie and piece away...it's portable...and I do get more accurate results....

I like the results better for tight curved piecing, but if my hands would allow it, I would hand piece a lot more :D:D:D

I have a question I am about to hand sew all my borders and strips on to my blocks and I have always used the machine but don't like the puckering that occurs. Has anyone done this are the results much better. As far as taking alot of time I don't care I just want to have it look nice. Linda

I tried this pattern on the machine and it was a disaster (sp) I finally started hand piecing it and it went together so much better. Since it was all done by hand decided to hand quilt it, I love it and will definately hang on to it forever....

picture is dark but you can see the pattern

I have handpieced borders without the puckering issue!

I don't have to piece because I don't do patchwork - but I sew the length of fabric together by hand for the wholecloth top and back. The seem looks softer and not so "sharp" like a machine seam and it fits better to the traditonal look of my quilts.

Welcome to the board. I adore hand quilting but set myself a challenge to do machine work. I am working on 1/4" seams. Mine were not accurate. Rail fence is a good starter pattern. A cushion cover or place mats or small items are ideal. I find for machine work I need to iron. With hand piecing I never ironed.

I've hand pieced and hand quilted and machine pieced and straight line and stitch in the ditch machine quilted. Like both. Depends on the quilt and what works best.

If you're in a hurry, hand piecing probably won't be a good idea.
