The Star Spin Pattern detail instructions are worth $40. Most designer quilt patterns cost $20 or more now. I have tried to contact the authors but so far every inquiry has come to a dead end.

What do you put on your finger under the quilt when hand quilting? I keep stabbing my finger frequently.

I don't use a frame or hoop either - mostly I do smaller projects, nothing like a bed quilt. I would like to know what other hand quilters use on their guiding finger under the quilt when inserting the needle downward from the top. Hope someone will let us know if they use something other than a thimble because I tried using one and it's too awkward.

I bought this book and read it. Then I handquilted my StarSpin Wall hanging just as Barbara said in the book and it worked great.

The author tells you to start quilting from the outside. I quilted at the table and was amazed at the results.

I bought the book at Clotilde a few years ago. I believe it was less than $20 when I bought it.

When I hand quilt, I either use a quilt-as-you-go frame (similar to a needlepoint frame) when the top is put together in strips, or if the top is one unit, I use a 14" quilt hoop. Both work great.

I have the book and made the quilt. Fabulous and I'm not an expert. Where can I fine the book? I have lots of friends who want to make it. Do not buy the pamphlet pattern. Someone condense the book and left a lot of instructions out. 2 of my expert friends made it with the pamphlet and it was a night mare.

I watched Sharon Schamber's board basting video on YouTube and it's the only way I baste now. So much easier than the floor and I finally get no puckers! I thread baste well and quilt in my lap, no hoop or frame. I used to use a hoop, but my stitches are better without one. I big (more like medium) stitch everything.

746.46 is the Dewey Decimal code for books about quilting, so if you search by that, you will get a boatload of books. If you have a library card from any NC library, you can check on the NC Cardinal website.

    https://www.nccardinal.org/eg/opac/home

It will tell you if the book is available anywhere, and if you really want it, the library that has it can send it.

Not familiar with that book but I hand quilt without a frame or hoop. I use Sharon Schamber's basting method (it's on youtube) and it works brilliantly. Very secure and smooth.
