This batch I have, Singer brand, has had two to break while quilting. This is rare for me. Don't remember where I bought them. Perhaps it is just a fluke but...
What brands do any of you hand quilters use?

#9 betweens BOHIN for patchwork and quilting. they are made in France. The website is www.bohin.fr". They are good for both low and high loft batting. I bought a bunch of them at the Quiltfest in Jacksonville, Fl. last year. The are great. Have not ever broken one.

I like Roxanne's. I use #11 and #12 betweens. I've had a couple that flunked the quality control test over the years but find they are far better than others that I've used. You really need the Roxanne threader for at least the #12's. The wire on other readily available threaders is just too thick for the #12's. Can't say for certain if that's the case for the #11's also but since I have them for the 12's I use only them anyhow. Colonial Needle is a great source. Good price and very good service in my experience.

I use John James needles--Roxanne's tend to bend on me. I also get mine from Colonial Needle.

I use Piecemakers and Roxanne for all hand sewing and handquilting. Roxanne's betweens have a larger eye! I think these two brands are the best you can use. I haven't found any other brand that will glide in the fabric like these and I've tried every brand. If I have to push the needle in fabric it goes in the trash. Needles made in Japan are made from quality steel (The Japanese are very particular about their needles)then needles made in Germany or England so always look for made in Japan.

I use John James or Richard Hemmings size 11.

I've had whole packs of needles that broke on me.
