Do a search on Kaye Woods grandmother's flowergarden. She has a great video on how to sew them using a machine. But you could also do it by hand. Watched it last night. Great info.

I am making a Grandmothers Flower Garden for a wedding gift. I am sewing them on my machine. I start sewing a quarter inch from one end of the hexagon and stop a quarter inch from the other end. You can do the same thing hand sewing. Once you have completed sewing, press the flower. Mine are perfect every time with no puckers. I am making mine a queen size and every flower is a different color. It is turning out beautiful!!!
