Handi Quilter - Thoughts??
#21
Hi Have had my HQ16 for 2 years and I love it. I have never had a problem, I do not have the stitch regulator, I do have the stylis, I am the computer.. ha I researched all of them before buying this one. I am lucky my distributor lives in the next town, I have mine stretched as far as I can and have gotten up to 110" wide, so I am very pleased. Quilt trends.com they sell, used, and new, plus demo's or ones used for classes. Chek them out. if that web doesn't work let me know and I will email the site to you.

I got them from the dealer, I keep thinking that I can make my own as well with a plunge router, I believe that you are order them online, the price varies depending on the design and how bit the board is, what would be nice is to find someone close that uses them as well and then we could trade,

Mike, [email protected] is the email for quilttrends and he can answer all your questions on everything, I know cause I picked his brain apart a couple years ago. I got rid of the other one I had, A1 I hated it. Love this one, no maintenance no problems.... I think the other I had was a lemon....

I really like that they have the groovy boards. And I liked that I could get a HQ 16 and use it right away, and THEN upgrade to the computerized part of it.
Does anyone have thoughts or other options I should consider. I just want to be sure I'm not missing alternatives and though I would come to the experts to be informed.
Have you checked out the Nolting Mid and Long Arm Machines? Have tested several @ various Shows, and these were by far the best (other than high end Gammil Statler's -but who has $30K lying around for one of those??)

Mike,
Check around at local quilt shops for lessons on the longarm. I just attended a quilt show here in Charleston and a vendor who does quilting, also gives lessons at their Myrtle Beach shop. About 95 minutes to drive from here but could be worth it. You can do you own quilt for $75.00.

Mike,
You really need to try all the machines. Go to a quilt show somewhere. I have an Innova 18" and it is top of the line for stitching and using ANY thread. The company is here in Houston and the service is 24/7 and it is just that. Been in the industrial quilting business for 70 years so is a top quality machine. Moves with just one finger and the frame is an industrial one. Give it a try. I bought a smaller one for my first one and never got the results I wanted, so it does not always work that you can upgrade and come out ahead. I gave mine to the Church. Good luck.

Thanks for all of the replies, I am going to my local Des Moines show this October. Like I said I'm not running out and shelling out 5-12K right away. :)
Just wanted to get experiences and thoughts on what people were using and things to look into. There is a local quilt shop that has the HQ series that I want to check out this weekend.
But still like hearing about the other brands and the positives and negatives of each ones. :P
