Has anyone done one of these Handkerchief quilts? I bought a shoebox full of old handkerchief years ago at a garage sale, now I've just received a ton more when I moved my mom to Alaska. I have the book Hanky Panky but would like to know if anyone has tackled this yet?

i'd be interested in starting yet another project. i also have a gazillion old lace hankies. i once had a pattern for keeping the fancy corner and cutting
heart-shaped curves over the corner. then you take the entire "heart" and applique it to a red or pink (in my case, blue) block. the one shown was very pretty. if you do try it, let me know how difficult it is to work with those old fragile hankies. and don't forget pictures along the way. we love pictures.

I love those.. I've been collecting hankies for years.. I've also seen beautiful kitchen curtains made with them.

I would think you would have to stabilze them before using them in a quilt.

Hi, I have made two of them like the ones in the Hanky Panky book. I will try and post pictures on the Picture site. THey were a lot of fun. Years ago I hand quilted a top for a customer who had made quilt blocks using half hankies as the wings of butterflies. It was really pretty. I have also seen patterns where a hanky was used as the skirt on a dress on a quilt made up of ladies.

I love what you've done with the hankies.

I collect them, too, and one of these days
want to incoroporate them into a quilty
    project!

I have never tried one. Had a pattern for a wall hanging. They can be very pretty in a quilt.

I saw a cute on recently that had rows with pretty fabric envelopes. Then the flap was made with hankies and pretty lace. Very cute and very girly.
