Why do you need 40 blades? Even if you change it once a month that's still almost 4 years worth of blades.

I called Harbor Freight yest and the first one was out. Called the second one and they had nine. I asked her to put back 8 for me and she did. Saved the running around. I just asked if the had that item number in stock and they can look it up and not have to search the store.

You're so right. I think that all of our rushing to buy dozens of packages has led to this price hike. It's a form of hoarding that will only come back to haunt us in the end. Harbor Freight owners aren't stupid. If they're looking at their numbers right now, they're becoming aware of what's going on. Especially with all of us who have told the cashiers to expect crowds of quilters coming in to buy up their stock. I think we should have been cooler about it. But that's just my opinion.

It is called Free enterprise. Just because the people here are picking them up does not mean that EVERYONE in the nation is. We are but a small percentage of the whole of quilters. I am sure that Harbor Freight is just glad for the business.
Oh and by the way the carpet business is doing very well also. My best friends hubby owns a carpet business and he says that they have been picking up since the percentage rate has been dropping. Alot of people are updating their homes with carpet etc. I doubt very much that we are the reason for the price going up.
Yes she is inquiring to her hubby about the rotory blades. Most Layers use the straight blades though. HF is for DIYers.

I'm sure that Harbor Freight doesn't mind all the free advertising they are receiving on this board. Don't you think maybe the quilters purchased something else while they were in there looking for rotary blades?

I've never been to a Harbor Freight; there is not one where I live. I had never heard of until you all started talking about it on here.

Scissor Queen asked what one would do with 40 blades. Just suppose some of us make a lot of quilts. I made and quilted 42 last year and I ain't no Spring Chicken. At 76 I am trying to use up my fabrics before I die. More than likely the people who get my quilts will die before I do. They are HIV Positive or have AIDS. '

I don't remember how many I bought the last time I ordered from JHittle, but it was more than 40, I guarantee you. I pass along the savings to friends. Spread a little Cheer!

Oh June you are so sweet.
42 quilts just last year? WOW!!! You are a busy lady. If I were wearing a hat it would be off to you. If you ever run out of blades you just let me know. Happy to help out.

The automatic ordering/refill process doesn't count on sales spikes as a means to increase prices unless it is happening with regularity. It does, however, put a merchant on notice that there is an increased demand for a product(s) and that could lead to an increase in what is ordered. Pipeline (orders from a manufacturer) prices can fluctuate daily if it were a commodity product (say, like lumber), but metal blades - probably made of recycled metal - wouldn't move much, if at all, as they are ordered by large quantities. Every business loves a "run" on an item(s) but they are also cautious to not over-order because of it, especially in the last quarter of their business year. If you think about it, the many blades you are buying now are going to last you a long time. Also, if you have one of those circular hand-held re-sharpeners you will have blades for a loooong time. I just bought 20 packs for my wife and she responded with "I have enough blades now to cut fabric until I'm 140 years old!" She is 51. As for the carpet cutting handle, skip it unless the only way you can get blades ' cause you are out is to buy one. It is strictly for cutting carpet.
