That's a really good question. Maybe the way to go would be to do the insert as a QAYG and then applique it on to the front and then to the back (seperatly). Using hindsight, I think I'd have taken off just the front and left the batting and the backing intact and appliqued the new front on.

Could I have gifted it knowing that it wasn't just the way I wanted it? No.

I have never done it that way but I sure would if I didn't like the way it looked. Good luck with yours.

I think I would have used the center as a wall hanging and started over.

Good luck. I think what you want to do can be done.

Good grief, you must have been dissatisfied with a capital D! Sheesh! You are a brave soul! Fix it and make it like you want it. You can do it. Good luck. It was beautiful before and will be even more so when you are done.

You are so brave! But that's why we love quilting; manipulating fabrics anyway we want to do it! Well done!!

You should be able to use the QAYG process on this. I would quilt separately and then wash it so it matches the rest of the quilt and then QAYG to get it in. Google has many videos and tutorials on this process. Look up QAYG on a Medallion quilt...this should be a similar process. Good luck...I don't blame you...I would do almost anything not to rip.

I got got the new centre panel into the quilt! I think the colours work better. The church has been done trapunto style and stands quite proud of the white background. For some strange reason the bonding stuff I used made the fabric quite stiff however it has worked in favour of it being trapunto. Hope that makes sense? The back of the panel has blended in really well - no more lumpy bits! The irony of this exercise is that Amy said they loved the red church because it had the most intricate detailing in the windows and asked if she can have it for a wall hanging! I used it for a template and it got binned so have said to her that I will do another. I swear, I'm going to be drawing this church in my sleep!
I don't think I'd like to repeat this exercise though it's certainly been a learning experience.
