I made a baby quilt that was one big square called "baby steps". If you google that it should come up. I would think that you could do the same for a larger quilt and just keeping adding logs (strips). Have a fun time making it and hope you heal soon.

Kaye Woods 6 hour quilt is made that way.
Many of the Gees Bend quilts are one block log abin.
So Yes, you can do it. I would think you need to do some simple calculatons to make sure it comes out the size you want which would start with the length of the center strip.

Only thing you need to know is that your finished quilt will be square instead of rectangular.

If you're going to try my idea, you might want to start with a block design that is straight set rather than on point like Ocean Waves is. Just a suggestion because you sound like a relatively new quilter.

There are lots of straight set HST blocks to choose from...Broken Dishes, Dutchmans Puzzle, Peace and Plenty to name just a few...that would be easier to construct, waste less fabric, and avoid bias edge concerns. Whatever you decide to do, have a great time with it.

I'm making one now. It will be set on point, which I'm a little unsure of. I guess I'll sew longer strips and square it up after I've finished the Piecing. Any suggestions?

I started one like that recently, but I'm not sure if I'm going to just keep adding to it or make several log cabin blocks and sew them together.

I have just recently done exactly that - one big log cabin block by simply adding piece after piece! It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend just letting yourself go with it......I didn't worry too much about the colors as all colors blend eventually. I did stay with smaller patterns as that's what was mostly in my scrap bin. It's going to a friend and she's anxious to have it finished and in her possession.
Sorry I cant post photos - my camera is back at the manufacturer for repairs!
