Has anyone ever made a whole quilt as a log cabin?

I made a baby quilt that was one big square called "baby steps". If you google that it should come up. I would think that you could do the same for a larger quilt and just keeping adding logs (strips). Have a fun time making it and hope you heal soon.

Kaye Woods 6 hour quilt is made that way.
Many of the Gees Bend quilts are one block log abin.
So Yes, you can do it. I would think you need to do some simple calculatons to make sure it comes out the size you want which would start with the length of the center strip.

There are lots of straight set HST blocks to choose from...Broken Dishes, Dutchmans Puzzle, Peace and Plenty to name just a few...that would be easier to construct, waste less fabric, and avoid bias edge concerns. Whatever you decide to do, have a great time with it.

perfect ex in a library quilt book i just got called jump start your quilting. great book.
the quilt is page 28 by traci garner.
i`m in a hurray as have to leave to babysit grands so maybe someone can put up picture as i googled but din`t find.
So much in this book want to copy almost all the pattern but ofcourse ran out of ink!

I have just recently done exactly that - one big log cabin block by simply adding piece after piece! It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend just letting yourself go with it......I didn't worry too much about the colors as all colors blend eventually. I did stay with smaller patterns as that's what was mostly in my scrap bin. It's going to a friend and she's anxious to have it finished and in her possession.
