I've been quilting for almost 20 years and never had the thought to give it up totally. HOwever, you didn't mention your monther's age. It's very possible that she is experiencing some medical issues. I hate to bring this up but from my own experience, if she is making a major change to give up something she previously loved, she could be having Alzeimer's smptoms. My mother was an avid artist...then one day she didn't want to paint or draw. It was a subtle thing at the time chalked up to 'busy' with other things.

Never happened yet. I want to quit doing all the other stuff that keeps me from quilting, like cooking and cleaning.

I hope I am wrong, but just sharing so you can look at it from a different perspective.

I pretty much quit for about 5 years after I closed my shop. I was just so burned out from running it, a long divorce, moving cross country, needing and finding a job I didn't like all that much just to pay the mortgage and eat, and the grief of the loss of the marriage and the business. I just couldn't make myself design or quilt; but I maintained my stash which had been substantially increased as I closed the shop, packing and moving it with me.

I'm grateful I did that because one day I woke up after the third move and made three baby quilts in a week. I was back in business!

I hope your Mom is ok. I think if nothing medically is wrong with her, and she wants to quit quilting that should be her decision. Just make sure she is alright.
I know this is different but I used to exercise all the time. Then had back surgery (11 years ago) and have gained weight but can not, can not get back to exercise and probably never will. It's something I just quit...

I have been sewing for 40 years ( I can't beleive it as I write it... it sounds old!) ... I have had periods where I have not gone into my sewing room for long stretches ... but then I see a fabulous fabric ..... and I am consumed by it again.

My first thought was the same as Kappy's. Please try to make sure this change is not due to depression or illness that you and even your mother may not be aware of.

Well, maybe she just wants to move onto something else. Not everyone loves to quilt every minute of everyn day. She may want to start a different hobby, or she just may be feeling a little down right now. Whatever you do,make sure she gives you most of the stuff, so you can always return it if she wants it back.

Not yet. My Mom sewed for years and years (no quilting) and then stopped sewing when she hit 65. She's only sewn one time since then and that was to make my Dad a bunch of shirts. Now she just gives me her mending (currently making her 3 pairs of jammies). She just decided she was done with that and it no longer gave her joy.
