No back. There is no point to a back, because the ergonomics of the chair pitches you forward, slightly. You don't lean on the back, but are more correctly positioned straight over the seat.

boy, i love my Arrow chair but you make one want one of these. i do think this would be great for my son who is a fairly large man and sits out in the garage for hours on his computer sitting on a very cheap small office chair. No wonder he has back problems. Hmmm. (mulling this over).

Until this post I had never seen or heard of a saddle chair for sewing/quilting. Spent a few moments ( 40 minutes give or take) on "google" investigating these stools and if they truly help to get rid of backache from sitting too long while sewing I'm all for them. Will check out the local office supply stores first and if I can't find one there will go back on-line. Thank you for asking this question...it may help so many of us with back problems.

I am a retired Dental Hygienist. I have used a saddle chair for many years at work. It is a perfect chair and ergonomical as far as sitting in front of a patient or a sewing machine. I never had any back issues or neck issues. I say go for it. They are used in many dental offices. Prevents back neck and leg pain if you have it adjusted correctly. Love them.

I have one for use with my longarm when I'm micro-quilting or pulling stitches out. It's a love-hate thing. I have trouble getting positioned just right, and sometimes feel like I'm going to fall off. Other times, it feels fine.

My son & I were exploring a music store recently & I casually sat down on a drum throne. Oh my goodness it was sooooooo comfortable. Very similar to a saddle chair, (if not the exact same!) and it just felt so 'right' to me.
It had a 'lip' in the back instead of a full back, and needed wheels - but IMO, would have made a fantastic sewing chair. So if you are seeking a new saddle type chair - don't be afraid to look .outside the box' ~ in a music store. =)

I am so happy that I asked...I am going to get one now. I wasn't sure if it was a gimmick or real, but thanks to all of your help, I am willing to try one now! The people on here are so much more reliable than the sometimes"paid for" reviews on web sites.

I have a backless ergonomic chair that has a spring and is easily adjustable. It is quite comfortable and I like it because I can reach easily for things and move and it doesn’t hurt my back.
