We had Annelie Belden up for a class, teaching out of her "Thoroughly Modern Dresden". It's amazing what can be done with the Dresden block. It's worth a look at her patterns for sure. So much fun!

Mermaid, that quilt is a Dresden fan block alternated with a quarter of a jewel box block. Very pretty.

Thank you for your responses, and the picture of that beautiful pink quilt. Those aren't exactly what I was looking for, it was on the diagonal in rows.

Is this what you are looking for? These are just Dresden Fan blocks, placed in a diagonal direction.

All of these would be easy to do. Just make a quarter of a blockfor the diagonal pattern and make a half of a block (or circle) and arrange them in whatever order you wish. You can get a pattern for the Dresden plate block for free on quilters cache.com
