I agree with Maureen's idea. The thread color can really change the final look of a quilt.

Another idea for you: Applique shapes would add interest in the 4 solid grey areas that come together in a 4 patch. I like all the colors in your quilt. I hope you have fun finishing it.

You bet 'ya! I just made a baby quilt but when I got it finished it was just not what I would want to give the the new mom. A good idea gone south/bad/off the road and over the cliff. I just added another quilt to my pile of donation quilts.

I completely agree with this. Back when I was a baby quilter, I didn't like how a quilt top I made had turned out. I had tried to recreate the one on the cover of the book, but couldn't get the right fabrics and colors, so I was disappointed. I gave the top to a friend who does a lot of quilting for charity, and told her when she was done quilting it, she could pass it along to a certain charity. She finished it and showed it to me and I absolutely LOVED it. But, I had said I'd give it to the charity, so I did.

Lesson learned. Finish it before deciding if you like it or not.

I think every one of us has a 'oh my gosh what was I thinking' item. Nothing wrong with that. If you finish it and still absolutely hate it, gift it to someone else or a charity. Chalk it up to experience and move on. Life is too short and there are too many other patterns to try.
