Yikes! At what point does a stash go to hoarding? This looks like it may have gone to that point. Very brave posting the pics. I think if my room had a fraction of what is there I would be on a serious buying moratorium. I like to be able to see what I have and be able to keep a partial mental inventory so I don't duplicate what is already in my stash. Good luck getting dug out.

I started learning to quilt last winter and I use my son's old bedroom. The bed is stacked with fabric. I'm thinking that sooner than later I will have to get rid of the bed & get some bookcases/shelves to hold things. I've turned the dresser into my cutting table. I just bought a 6' folding table to set my sewing machine on...an upgrade from the old card table. And I have an old singer in a cabinet that I have a small tabletop ironing board on it when not using it. Did I say that this room is only 10' x 12'? It's small & getting smaller by the minute. Looking at your pictures I see my future...ha. Lucky you for being so rich in fabric!

Well, keep you eye on your goal and remember how wonderful and creative a room you can have again!

I keep mine quite neat, however I have overflowed my fabric storage as well and have had to put quite a few large rubbermaid tubs full of fabrics in the garage.
You sound like me. I like my sewing area organized,
but I have way too much fabric and have a lot of those
tubs full of fabric in the garage. I have cleaned out and
given away a lot of the fabric that was in those tubs, but
still too much. I wish I knew another quilter close to me
who would come and help me sort and price some more
of my excess fabric, books, magazines, etc. so I could
maybe make a little money off it. I have a good friend
who is a quilter, but she is gone a lot to visit family, so
for now it's just me. Anyway, one day it will get done :).
    Have a Great Day!

My goal this year is to not buy any new fabric and trim my stash by half. Thats going to be hard because I love fabric. I love buying it ,washing and ironing it. Folding it and touching it. Looking at it but not so much sewing it. I have a long row to hoe. Wish me luck.

right, this is NOT hoarding, this is what happens when you THINK you will have time to do things that you just don't have time for!

I run a small business online, went to school for a year, I worked 6 clients and 2 jobs for a year, and I had 5 major surgeries in 18 months....before you know it, 5 years is gone and nothing got done in that room, except I kept adding NEW projects!

I only save larger bits now, and give the smaller stuff to either the Girl scouts or a local charity group that makes quilts for DHS kids.

I don't have room to store MORE stuff...I don't care what Bonnie Hunter says! :-D
