Has this happened to you?

My view is from the other side of the sales counter. My stash was taking over all my storage spots, so I put an ad on Craig's list to sell. Yes, I pulled some favorites from my stash before the showings. The first buyer bought over 100 yards and, after she left, I felt like I had just sold my grandchildren. Again, I went through that stash and relocated some more fabric, and then a few hours later I relocated more. Aefter a couple more buyers, I was digging out more and felt like a crazed squirrel, I decided "enough already, I am not ready to sell". I pulled the ad.
Now to put my stash back in some sort of order and leave it behind, when I go to the big quilting bee in the sky. Of course I continue to wonder if I have that red and purple print or did I sell it.

Sounds like she got you there under false pretenses. Some people (I mean many) have this crazy notion that people who sew will do anything to get fabric. I too would have been irritated and called off the sale.

I felt she really did not want me to buy the fabric, she is manipulative. Anyway I called her and told her I was not interested anymore. She called twice pestering my husband. He is less subtle than me. So to feel better I took some quilt patterns, fabric and pre-cut squares to a fellow church member who wants to learn how to do a quilt. She and her husband helped us move and she is a saint to help daughter raise three grandchildren. I guess sometimes you have to do something good to help others.

Sounds as if you experienced a "fabric hoarder" of the worst kind, the kind that is emotionally attached to what she has. She will likely never sell it. My mother was a hoarder and I know the symptoms. Too bad she wasted an hour of your time. Kudos to your DH for being so patient.

I think she had nerve to ask you to make aprons for her. I don't really think she was looking to sell anything. She was probably looking for someone to listen to her babble. You were so right in your decision to leave and calling her to tell her to sell it to someone else

I had to question why if she wanted to go out of business during Christmas did she want me to make some aprons. Her friend told me she wanted to sell them at an outlet store she frequents. So I asked the owner who laughed and said she just wanted to use me to make money. I let her know that any pattern of mine was mine and she could get into trouble for using somebody else's design. So she can make them herself because another quilter friend of mine does not want to deal with the person.
