    My LQS actually makes fat quarters to sell and has baskets full of them in the store. She also will cut a quarter yard piece if I need it.

    Some do, some don't. Some will only cut them the long way--what's that called? I can't remember, but it's an eighth of a yard of fabric and unless you're cutting strips, it's pretty useless. I just find one that will cut it the way I want. I really don't get why they won't cut them though, it works to their benefit. If they cut one, they've cut two and can sell the other one.

    Most of the quilt shops I've seen do a bundled fat quarter pack of fabrics that coordinate. If they have to have a stack of random fat quarters onhand, they could get stuck with them. How about when you only need a 5" square, or enough for an eyeball. Should they cut that, too?

    All the shops around here will cut fats on demand but won't cut less than a quarter yard (no 1/8s etc).

    What is a lenear quarter? Connecting threads has FQ & lenear quarters. What is the difference?

    My LQS will cut me a one inch strip if I want. They told me they will cut any size I want. That's good business as far as I'm concerned. They are willing to work with me. Large places that are on the internet usually have a minimum cut. I like to order a yard no matter how much I need.

    You need to come on over to Knights Quilt Shop in cape neddick Maine. We are one of the top quilt shops in the country and all of Canada. We will cut fat Quarters of everything but sale fabric.

    I haven't had trouble with that...but I admit I usually buy a 1/2 yard and figure I'll use the rest of it if I don't find out already cut. I find the quilt stores often charge a bit more for the fat quarter..

    You live in a beautiful area. I did the usual leaf peeper trail to New England one year and was thrilled with the quilt shops as well as the gorgeous scenery.
