Our Joanns had closed and just reopened on the same mall. The store is smaller. I went in the other day looking for some fabric. everything i touched felt AWFUL. I picked out 2 pieces to have cut but when the guy started unfolding it to cut it was very uneven so he trimmed it supposedly to even it up but it still wasn' even and it had a large paint(?) smear running through it. I told him to keep it and left empty handed. Their fabric quality is terrible. I will buy from Wally's before i go back in there.

I found out a month ago our Joann's is closing in April or so.
I remember going there when I was 10 or so (I'm now 53). They have changed locations over the years, but have always been within 15 minutes or so. I even think they are the reason an overpass was put in over the highway, so I could get there quicker!
I've always had a good experience at Joann's, in fact, after my accident, I got a hug from the manager.
Oh well, I have a good time dealing with the Walmart gals too.
It's funny, I'm off to Joann's in about 2 hours. Last time I was there nothing had changed, I wonder what I'll see now?

New owner is an Investment Holding Company
The manager at the nearby store told me that Joann's is now owned by, and managed by, an Investment Holding Company which is what I had read in the financial section of the Wall Street Journal. Now that manager (she) has been replaced by a young man who knows nothing about sewing or fabric who continues to hire more young men who don't even know how to cut material. One day we all watched in horror as a newby was going to cut a lovely piece of wedding satin fabric; the shopper asked for 1 yard for sample before she purchased all that the dress required. The cutter threw it on the table on top of a pile of tags and torn plastic wrap and then asked "what's a yard?" That shopper, and a couple of others, just walked away and right on out of the store. Now I look at who is at the cutting counters before I decide to buy anything.

I was at Joanns today and was so disappointed ! Fabric was decreased alot ! They had two grades of flannel; that is what I needed and the better of the two was $7.99 yd(good thing I had a coupon) but that is high and the other flannel on sale was not something I would take home. Other fabrics were just not quality. I will shop my LQS and take their 20% off knowing I have good fabric. Quilts are a labor of love and I want quality.

I just have to add another observation. All quilting shows off our public tv channels. HGTV doesn't have any needlework anymore...Someone said knitting is the new quilting! I don't knit. What shall we do...campaign?????
