    I do not use patterns! That way, you get what YOU want, not the pattern author.

    I'm modifying kit directions myself. I made such a disaster out of an applique block that I had to buy that block kit over (no salvage possible). One problem is that the leaves have these really weird deep concave thingies that IMO are not visually attractive to begin with and make for MUCH harder applique work (and I'm a beginner). When I tackle take 2 of that block, I'm just cutting the outside shape of the leaves. If I decide after applique is done it needs some detail, I have embroidery supplies or can obtain fabric markers. :)

    I think quilts are "whatever you sew them up to be". So, if it has these borders or not wouldn't matter. As long as you still like it, that's all that matters.
