Have you ever been to an unfriendly quilt shop?

My big pet peeve is not being greeted. By name makes me feel appreciated but a cheerful "Hi" or "Good M/A" works too. But I have been scowled at in a certain store--more than once and by more than one employee. As the shop is cramped and dark, I don't feel I'm missing out by not going there.
I also only shop at my local Joann's on Mon Tues or Wed as there's one clerk who is friendly and I'll let others go in front of me just so I can go thru her line.

I shop at Rainbow's End ALL the time(whenever I go to visit my DM, she lives just a few blocks from the shop) and I can personally say that I've NEVER had a BAD experience there. I recommend it to everyone I know. I'm sorry you and your friends had such an awful experience. Won't you please give them another chance. It must have been a bad day for all the employees. I don't know the help personally, but they've all been pleasant to me and ask what project I'm working on now. They ask me to bring my quilts in and show them when I'm done. I ALWAYS enjoy going there and can't wait to visit my DM so that we can spend the afternoon at this shop and feel and look at the fabric.

I made the silly mistake of visiting a quilt shop during the clerks lunch time. She started out friendly but tried to get me to buy somethingI didnt want and was very rude answering my questions. Her attitude was hurry and get out of here. Found out why later. her lunch was getting cold.
I called the store owner and she took care of problem.

We have one in our area and the more people I talk to the more I have heard that I am not the only one that the owners have been "testy" to. Walk in and hear "what do you want" and it is like excuse me? i am here to spend my money and this is what you say to me? twice this has happened to me so there will be no going back for me, once OK try again it was a fluke, twice NOPE you people have a problem. Both times I have spent money and felt bad for doing so. So no more..

I had an experience where the folks who worked in the quilt store weren't exactly unfriendly, but...
When one of their customers left the store, they started talking about her - lots of catty comments.
I left a few minutes later - no purchases. I couldn't bring myself to buy anything because I was wondering what they would say about me when I left!
Haven't been back to that shop since. I know it's human nature to talk about people, but you'd think that they could have waited until after I left to do it.

There is another cute shop not too far from Dunedin - Country Bears and Quilts in Clearwater. It's not nearly as big as RE but I always find some great fabric there. Visit it next time you're over that way.

I am just recently getting back into quilting. I haven't been to many quilt stores yet. I did call one asking for classes for my new Brother embroidery machine. It is the lowest model you can get. When I told the lady on the phone what model it is she said oh good luck finding a class for that. We call those boat anchors, because they are worthless. I told her I will teach myself and hung up. I was flabbergasted. Couldn't believe she said that. It is a store that is pretty close to me. I will never step foot in there though.
