    I too have made a scrappy braid...not the one with the center squares, just the braids like Stichnripper's. I used a jelly roll instead of scraps. I'd show a picture but it's still a UFO....almost ready to quilt, but still a UFO!

    This is one I've been wanting to do for years. Think it was in a Quilter magazine years ago, maybe a different one. The way it set together the bricks formed a walkway with appliqued florals like a garden if I recall. The bricks were scraps in similar colors and same values which would come from scraps from various quilts. I've toyed with the idea a bit to do some sort of a maze design, but haven't drafted that yet. LOL I look forward to seeing your version.

    I did a scrappy braided border on a Carpenter Star. I did ty to use the lights in a way that looked like they were part of a braid - showing up on alternate sides about in a consistant manner, but the other colors I let fall when they would. I say go for it.
