I have made many, many small quilts that I have given to the girls in my family to be used as table toppers or wall hangings. I have made Christmas, Halloween, Valentines, fall, spring, summer quilts and always have one on my table as well as a lot of other places in my house. I think my girls all use theirs as well.

Just after retiring I satisfied my like of quilts with inexpensive big box store quilts in patterns I recognized. Some actually were less expensive than department store tablecloths. So that's how it started. Cost was not a deterrant. They were friendly and fit my non formal family meals and they washed well. Next they became picnic and beach blankets.

Yes, if I know it will be a table cloth when I quilt it I use flannel rather than batting. It keeps glasses from tipping so easily.

I love using them, but son't usually line a tablecloth with batting, maybe just a piece of flannel

I do it a lot.....and it is soooo pretty.....It can be on a table you are not eating on and so it doesn't get soiled and have to be washed as much. But they wash ok too!!!

Yes. I have one on my dining room table right now (on point) and I love it. It has tea cups and saucers on it and was made for me by my quilting friends in Florida. I don't serve food on it though. The plastic cover is what i need.

My daughter, who is a caterer, uses some of her quilts as table toppers for special functions. They look so nice.

My sister and I made a tabletopper for Christmas using the dresden plate pattern. It was her first attempt at making a quilt and even though I did most of the work it made her feel good and everyone loved it over the holidays.
