When we were cleaning out my MIL's house and having a garage sale, we put a travel iron out on the table. It didn't sell in the first few hours, so I went and took another look at it. Ta Da, no holes, no steam. Into my box it went. Score!!!

I had one of these a while back and I must worn you it is a very hot iorn and will burn your fabric real fast and the hand you iron with. The heat just rises up and I could hardly hold the handle. There are always drawbacks to things which at first seem like good ideas. This is an old fashion iron. Even though the add says cool handle, the heat around it is really hot, hot, hot. This is just my experience with it. Others may differ.

I had a dry iron years ago from Goodwill. Someone had replaced the cord at some point and it was nice and long. I didn't use it for fabric though.
I used it to melt and smooth - the wax on my downhill skis!!!

Thrift shops are a gold mine here (Kansas City) for these irons (no steam, no holes, heavy). I see them often for a couple of dollars. I have one I bought at Goodwill about 5 years ago. I think I paid a dollar for it.

I have that iron and love it.
At home I use an iron that belonged to a good friend's mother (from the 50s). No steam, no teflon, gets really hot. Still going strong
A quilting buddy, knowing I'd be in despair at its ultimate demise, gave me the VCS iron. I keep it in my car and take it to retreats, workshops etc. It's a great iron.

I recieved this iron from a friend from Vermont Country Store as a birthday present -she knew I wanted it. I love it! Didn't like the holes the other irons left when ironing on freezer paper or iron on backings. This works great! And it gives met that vintage feeling when I'm using it which give me warm fuzzies inside!
