Default Having trouble figuring out block size.

I'm doing "Modern Boxes and Ribbons" from Modern Quilts magazine using Asian fabrics.....the directions say to cut and lay out four 5 3/4 squares into 2 rows each....I get that part, however, I just want to do one large block instead of sewing blocks together (I have a lot of Asian fabrics).....How do I figure how big one block would be? I feel so dumb that I can't do the math.....can anyone help me?

If each block in the 4-patch is 5 3/4 inches unfinished, then each is 5 1/4 inches finished, so two together would be 10 1/2 inches finished (2 x 5 1/4") Unfinished, your square should be cut at 11 inches so it will also finish at 10 1/2.
