Having trouble with your tension when FMQ?

I'd love to leave my feed dogs up but my machine won't let me. Once I set it up for it (press the button to slightly raise the presser foot) my machine won't budge till I put the feet down.
I've given up and haven't tried for about a year. Maybe I'll give it another try.
