    Default heart star block

I've seen this a couple of times this week, but can't figure out the pattern/piecing order. Or is it paper pieces somehow?

I knew when I saw it that it was probably a Buggy Barn pattern. The pattern name is "surprise".... Hearts & Stars. I believe this is their website now. https://www.onesisterdesigns.com/sho...d-patterns.htm

Tada: Found the pattern and it looks like it is still available. The full pattern name is Crazy About Hearts & Stars. https://www.onesisterdesigns.com/sho...s-x5491460.htm

This website has a closeup of the block. http://donnasintheattic.typepad.com/...-a-heart-.html

what a gang! Thank you all!

seems to be sewn in 5 or 6 odd shaped strips?

Perhaps cut from a stack of fabric and then you just pick and mix the parts?

I think it would be knock out in recycled shirts
    thank you again.

Went to see the closeup of the block and think it is a combination of 2 'Stack n Whack' blocks. Back in the day, I have made both blocks but not together.
Today I would start with the heart, move some outside sections away from cutting line, then do the star. Then take each layer off to create the different color hearts and then the stars.
You can really see how to cut the star after the top section of the heart is removed.

Might do well to draft it out first and then use paper as cutting pattern. To get points I would add seam allowances to each paper piece.
I used Christmas prints to make the star block into a top, it is not quilted after all these years.

The heart blocks are made then the stars are appliquéd on top. Or, you can Paper piece the blocks . This one does look like it was Paper pieced. I’ve seen it appliquéd too though. Whichever technique you prefer.
