Default help, advice please printed panel

Hi. Everyone is always so good with ideas, so I'm asking for a few suggestions, again.
I've been commissioned to make quilt from a printed panel, but i need to make it a little larger than the panel I need about 12 inches on top and bottom. I've thought of just wide borders, or some pieced blocks to make up difference. Maybe white on white with stars, or cloud print, or pale yellow, or yellow dotted. Thanks in advance for your help.

I would do some blocks around the edges then a border. You could do 4 patches then a small border.

As suggested, add a border made up of blocks, maybe stars in red or blue with a white or yellow background since there are stars on the panel in yellow. I just made a baby quilt using a panel I had laying around and added a 3-striped border...teal, blue, teal to match the inner border on the panel. Was able to match the panel's color fairly well too from my stash. Its on the frame now being quilted as we speak.

How about Wavy Borders? It's a version of the piano key with more movement.

How about pinwheels, or stars. They make a great border.

I might add piano keys in the red and off white to both ends.

If you set the blocks on point, they will be smaller. You might want to invest in EQ software. Makes resizing or adding borders very easy.

I have a few suggestions depending on how much you're getting paid to make the quilt.

Low See if they make coordinating fabrics for the panel or find something close with either hearts or stars on it -- ideally with a dark blue background (2nd choice would be blue-green) & just cut it at 12".
Middle Alternate two 9-patches to reflect the red/beige, yellow/beige & blue/navy stripes on the panel. You can just strip piece together red-beige-red & beige-red-beige(same for other 2 sets) and offset the yellow in the middle so it gives it a bit of movement.
High Two borders. Inner border with blue & navy either blocks or piano keys interspersed with patchwork heart blocks. Outer border beige or something similar to the background of the star border with red sharks' teeth pointing in (babies love playing with sharks' teeth). Would be cute bound with either a stripe or a blue gingham.

I've had panels that I made longer by adding a row with 2 colors (think checkerboard) and then borders. Also have added rows of sashed blocks with something that goes with the theme, such as hearts/stars, etc.

I would do something in stripes -- that would echo the striped stockings in the panel.
