Pink and purple are great colors for a baby-girl-quilt!
As far as choosing a pattern to use, you should consider 1) your sewing/piecing skills, 2) the time you have available to make the quilt, and 3) your quilting (as opposed to sewing/piecing) skills.
There are many recommendations in the QB archive for simple/easy/quick quilts, so I won't list them here. But if you can give us all a description of your skills, time available, and financial flexibility (like being able to hire someone to do the actual quilting), you are likely to get a more robust reply.
Good luck!

Pinwheels, Bricks & Blocks or a disappearing 9 patch. LOTS of ideas... There is a simple Nine patch quilt from Eleanor Burns in her Still Stripping book. You know that the family will treasure what ever you end up making !!! GOOD LUCK !! Keep us posted.
