I just got here, but it looked to me as though some of them matched, even when you said they didn't, so not every block was off ... <g> if that helps encourage you <g> but, I am so glad that you came to the board ... it is FULL of helpful people.
Great pattern, by the way <wave>

    Thanks for all the encouragement!

Today I hope to finish sewing together the top, then I'll post pics! So far so good :)

I'm with the othe ladies, I would square a couple up first and see if that will work for you and if it is not working then make a couple more blocks and check the rest of your seam allouance.

Hi, I think that is the soulution. To make a square all has to be equal no matter how you arrange them. Good Luck. I'm back on machine again. Holidays hard. Happy New Year. I remember a few years ago that nothing seemed right when I was learning but I kept on quilting. I actually won three blue ribbons at the Acton Fair (Maine) so I was proud of my 2nd year of sewing. Take care.

How did you sew the strips together? I know I was taught and have read in some patterns to alternate the direction you sew strips together. By this I mean strip 1 and 2 sew from left to right and then when joining strip 3 sew from right to left. Does this make sense? In my opinion, it helps keep the strips square.

Squaring up your blocks covers a multitude of sins. Then if it is not as big as you would like, add borders.

In the future, you might try moving the needle position way over to the right. I have to do that on my machine, or the same thing happens.

After you sew the strips together and press them measure them that is the size block you make. Sewing them in alternating directions helps so they are not distroted. Good Luck.

After I have all the rows sewn, I lay out the rows and in the order that they go together, I press the seams of one row to one side and the seams for the next row to the other side. That way, when you sew the rows together, the seams will nest and make the corner matches easier.

When I first started, I did not want to hear (or believe) that the devil is in the preparation. Some of my initial trials were done rather haphazardly and I paid for it EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. The more precise the prep work is, the easier the assembly is. Take it from someone who fought that concept hard!

Thanks for the additional input.....my day got interrupted (darn those airport delays!) but as soon as bedtime for short people hits, I'm headed up to hopefully finish up the remaining rows and then stand by for pictures :)
