Maureen, I solved the problem temporarily by turning off the lower thread indicator, as grandma nurse suggested. My machine is due for a checkup so will have them check the bobbin sensor. Thanks for your help. I must admit I am bothered by this because of how much I have invested in this machine. It seems a lot of owners have this problem and it should be addressed by Bernina.
