Back when my parents had their 50th anniversary, that is what I wanted to do for them. I had made 50 blocks to work into the quilt, had pigma pens, and extra fabric incase more than 50 people wanted to sign blocks. I had thought my parents would love it....but..my mom said she didn't want a quilt with writing on it...maybe people could sign a book (but of course, there wasn't a book at the anniversary party)...I was SO dissappointed....that...the quilt never got made...the blocks are still in an unfinished project box somewhere. My mom does love quilts that I make her...she just didn't want a quilt with writing...so maybe the point I am trying to make here is to maybe ask first somehow if this is something that the recipients would like.

I would love it. I would LOVE to curl up in a quilt and know that all my friends touched and signed it and I'd love to sit there and look at and study all those signatures. I'm sorry your mom didn't like the idea. :(

I love memory quilts and have made quite a few. I learned that placing freezer paper on the back and pencilling in the borders is needed! I've used crayola crayons, gelly pens, fabric markers and all are good. I've put the blocks as windows in a houses, simply set with sashings, as rail fence. Any way you can think of is excellent!
