Hi there, welcome from northern Minnesota!

When I first started quilting I took a class and I learned SO MUCH. I would recommend that to anyone.

Welcome to the QB from Ky. You might want to try looking at your room and match the quilt colors to it.

Hello and Welcome from Central California :)
A class in beginner is always a nice way to start, kit normally has the pre chosen colors thet coordinate well, can also pick up a book, will help a lot, When picking colors, keep in mind it's easier to coordinate fewer colors, I try to either get all from the same series, so the base colors are the same, or if your going w/pink & purple, make sure the pink has some of the same purple tones in it. (hope that made sense) Good Luck have fun, and remember their are no Quilt Police. :)

I would suggest taking a class. Check out community college, local quilt shops, sewing machine dealers. All can tell you what is available in your area.

The thought I have is that you can choose a fabric from a line of fabrics that you like. In this way there will be fabrics that you know will coordinate and you are not trying to choose from a whole world of fabric. You would be able to choose from that line. I also choose fabrics with some contrast, but I know people who prefer no contrast. This is just a personal preference.

Purchasing a quilt kit can be a good idea if you can find one you like. I enjoy choosing my fabrics and cutting them, so I only buy a few kits.
