My ironing board cover is a stained, ugly one. It is 18" x 48", and I'm having trouble finding one locally. There is one on Amazon, but it has good reviews and bad ones. It is a Polder.

Anybody found a good one this size?

Can you take your old one off and use it for a pattern to make youself a new one?

I usually just make mine from a prewashed fabric that I like. And I don't use a pattern I just lay the fabric out on the ironing board and cut about 4" below the top. Then I hem it with a cord inside the hem, put it on the board, pull the cord and tie it. You do have to put a little reinforcement right where the cord comes out to keep it from tearing.

As innovative as I think I am, I had never thought of this. I was thinking it needed to be made out of some special fabric, but the one on there is just regular fabric.

Thank you so much for this idea.

I have a couple of homemade ones...particle board pieces with a layer of batting and a layer of the silver heat resistant stuff from hancocks. That and a staple gun....

I always do my own, But I put a sheet of alumium foil just be for the top as it will reflect heat and I staple it on but have a very old wood board.

I've made my own covers many times with just two layers of plain quality muslim - works great and when it's stains you just cover with another layer.

Cotton duck works beautifully. Take some large safety pins and you can just pin the yardage over top of your existing one. Easy to change out, easy to wash!

I did sort of a hybrid cover. Used plain cotton, made a drawstring tunnel, but also took safety pins, spaced them around the edges of the back, and ran elastic through them, zig zaggy across the back. Cinched it all up nice and tight. Easy to change out when used up.
