What are the differences in homespun, quilting cotton and batiks?

Discuss the pros and cons of that ever-present question -- To Wash or Not To Wash.

What are the bare minimum tools do you really need to have to start quilting.

What to look for in a sewing machine. Straight piecing, free motion, walking foot, embroidery,

OK, I'll work on all of these, except one. I'm not sure I can find the seam rippers, but I bet if you sit or step on one, you'll find it for sure!

I'll start writing some more tutorials, and will post the links when I've got something written. Thank you all! Judy

How do you choose thread color for quilting?

What is the importance of cutting on the straight grain of fabric? Is it important? Am I missing out by not?

A quilting friend says she has to name every quilt she makes and it is fun BUT doesn't this cause confusion with the names of patterns or blocks? This is especially of concern with quilts that will become heirlooms and are labeled with the "name" given rather than the block.

I'll tell you how NOT to do it. The last (only) time I did it I layed it out on my husbands shop floor and used a 12' long aluminum strip as a guide with heavy pieces of steel placed strategically along the strip to hold it down. Then I scooted along the floor and cut the fabric. Did one helluva number on that rotary cutting blade against the concrete floor let me tell you!!
Oh sheesh! What WERE you thinking? I'm not laughing at you, hopefully with you. I sort of did the same thing using a piece of scrap linoleum to cut on.

    Question:
Even though I've learned a lot by teaching myself to quilt, should I still take a beginners class and learn from a teacher?

I've been asked this before and my answer is "YES" because I've never taken a class that I didn't pick up at least one piece of information or way of doing something that I didn't know before.
